Because Yamaha removed the metal ring from the cup, the instrument has decreased in weight but has retained its robust design. The new cup that results only from sturdy ABS resin is a lighter instrument with an improved response. The sound chamber in the cup helps with the protection and improves intonation at the lower tones. The Yamaha YCL255S also features a 65mm ton, which is based on yamaha's top models and provides the focused tone of the clarinet.
