Buy guitar effects?

Someone who is going to buy guitar effects is ready for the next step. Besides playing your guitar and looking for the right amplifier you are looking for more. Guitar effects come in many different shapes and sizes. And there are many brands that develop and offer this. Guitar effects are in the simple explanation an extra effect to your guitar sound. This sounds very logical and simple, but it is. Where on most amplifiers you have the option to adjust your gain, and possibly add a reverb. Effects go many times further. You have overdrive, reverb, fuzz, chorus, delay and much more. All these so-called effects give their own twist to your own sound in their own way. You can endlessly combine and try with effects.Read more...

Which effects do you see the most.

It is difficult or impossible to answer these questions. Each playing and music style requires its own effects. A number that you see very often are: Reverb, Delay and distortion. In the section below, we're going to explore these briefly.

Reverb

Reverbis a very good way to quickly give your “Dry” sound a bit more feeling and depth. You can use reverb in different ways. Reverb is basically nothing more than reverberation. Most reverb pedals, on the other hand, are quite extensive. This way you can choose how long the reverb will last and how broad the reverb sounds. Certain settings here are already “pre-programmed” in the different variants. For example, you have a somewhat smaller reverb with a “room reverb” and that is many times more with a hall reverb. In addition to those two, there are a number of others. Each has its own use. And as with all securities. The user determines. It is always a matter of taste.

Delay.

Delaysometimes looks a lot like reverb but is completely different. Whereas reverb “enlarges” its own sound, delay is more like an echo effect. The sound you play will be repeated. You can often set the time between the notes, how often it is repeated and how hard the repetitions are. You can use it to make your sound sound a bit fuller. You can also use it as an effect to give your sound a completely different twist. The band U2 is a good example to have a look / listen to what delay can do with your guitar sound.

Overdrive and Distortion.

A well-known concept for many guitarists. When you plug your guitar into an amp, you turn up the volume and your gain is not too high. Then you have the clean sound of your guitar. If you increase the gain, there will be a slight cracking sound. The higher the gain goes, the more of this ripping sound is added. We call this overdrive. Distortion is in the same street but is slightly different. It is a somewhat heavier ripping sound which also sounds much fuller than with an overdrive.

In brief

Besides the fact that you can plug a guitar into an amplifier, there are more options. You can give your guitar that little bit extra that you are looking for in a fairly simple way. Guitar effects come in all shapes and sizes. You have pedals with single sounds and the so-called Multi effects pedals. This contains all kinds of different effects. Neither is better than the other. It is different. Every guitarist has their own preferences and wishes regarding guitar effects.

Common terms

  • Gain: the amount of overdrive on your guitar.
  • Reverb: in a simple explanation it is the echoing sound on a voice or instrument.
  • Dry noise: The sound without any effects.
  • Clean sound: The guitar sound without overdrive.
  • EQ: Equalizing: A kind of smart volume knob that can turn up and down on certain frequencies or frequency ranges.
