The Selmer D is made of ebonite, and has a larger tip opening than the C *. Due to the larger tip opening, this mouthpiece has a much fuller sound. This is often chosen by the better players, or the saxophonists with a big embouchure. With a larger tip opening it takes a little more air, but this gives you a thicker sound.
