This amazing bass guitar is the result of the collaboration between Richard Bona and Marco De Virgiliis, who did not want to accept compromises in working together. Richard is one of the most valued and respected musicians worldwide and since the start of this project he has said that he would never have put his name (nor his fingers) on an instrument that does not deliver the highest quality standard. Kimandu bassen have the same charm, design and product philosophy as the Kilimanjaro hi-end series, with the same main features, but an optimised production process to enable this incredible price.
Despite this, the design is rather far from a standard design, it is still ergonomic and balanced. The original design has been improved together with Richard until there was a final result that represents 100% Richard and Marco. The body shape with the smooth backside is designed for guitarists who also like to play in a classic style position (a pretty trendy fashion between the bassists). Thanks to the lower cutaway, maximum access continues to be given until the last fret. The ultra sophisticated and comfortable neck makes super low action settings possible. The type of wood is also specifically selected. The combination of an okumè wooden body and a maple wood neck is surprising light, but nevertheless gives a full tone. Theesthorn wooden, 34 " scale, 24 extremely carefully refined frets, black GraphTech nut and black hardware give it a powerful appearance as well.
The Markbass soapbar pick-ups are designed to be as versatile as possible together with the controls. The controls are VOLUME/VOLUME/TONE (with an active/passive switch on Tone), allowing for an incredible mixing ability of the pickups. The TONE controller (which also works in passive mode) is defined by Richard as the "G-point" because of its precise effectiveness that allows it to go from flute, warm tones to bright, hi-fi tones. Also, the frequency values of the active BASS/MID/TREBLE controls are so chosen that they offer a wide range of tones that you can use on any setting. This makes the MB Kimandu suitable for any kind of bass guitarist.
