Especially for when a nice damper sound is desired in very softly played parts (pianissimo). This damper uses the inner part of the 5531 adjustable damper. When it was discovered that this appeared to give a well-muffled sound, even at low noise levels (where metal dampers usually sound too "open"), it was decided to sell the inner part separately as a pianissimo variant. This damper is finished in sleek, anodised aluminum.
